Tracking a delivery problem.

When a problem did arise with the transmission or delivery of a telegram, the Telegraphic Supervisor would initiate a formal inquiry with the operator or with the messenger.

The details of the inquiry were always filed - except one escaped in the cleaning out of the Wagga Telegraph Office.

Inquiry

The cover sheet on a form sized brown sheet has a correction to the cost: 1/2 originally charged for 18 words with 1/- for 16 words written above. The second sheet (not shown) asks for a check on the charge to be made.

Mr Smith has then written to Messenger Russell asking: "Why was this message not dealt with on 13th instead of causing delay till today" 17-4-22.

Messenger Russell has replied: "Mr Smith, Sir, Re the attached I have no recolection (sic) of seeing the message after I took same from South Wagga at 4:23 pm untill (sic) Saturday morning when I tried to get South Wagga - but she was closed. W. E. Russell 18-4-22".

The top form has the earliest recorded use of the Telegraphs Wagga Wagga date stamp type A.
